My family always told me I could be anything I wanted. Soooo approaching my twilight years, my new path is being the best Soldier I can be, serving my country with my gifts and talents with pride.
The process has not been easy, but with each step along the journey, I have learned and garnered a better understanding of what it takes to be a military member.
I was always taught to take pride in my appearance, even when I was only going outside to play. But despite that, whenever I came home after a day outside, this Tom Boy was never as clean as I was when I left in the morning.
I have created a pride of place in my closet for all my uniforms, vests, boots, and shoes. My uniforms include a DCU, Digital Combat Uniform, (which is the camouflage one), Tactical Vest, Mess Kit (red and dark blue), Service Dress (for formal events) and KP (the brown short sleeve, the brown belt is called Sam Brown).
There are other uniforms that I will need, but I am still new to the journey so I will acquire what else I need in time.
The pictures will show you what each uniform looks like and how good I look in each😊
From the first day, I put on my DCU and the first time I put on any of the uniforms I cannot express the immense pride I feel when I am in uniform. My friends and family say they see my persona adjust when I am in uniform.
My sister from another mother has always said, ‘Get up, dress up, and show up’ I have always and will continue to do that in and out of uniform.
You will always be a soldier, as I was told by a former military officer. That is my mind-set in all I do going forward.
